Get ready to ignite your creativity this winter break with Mixxer's first-ever Winter STEAM Camps!
We've got six epic workshops designed to spark the maker within, perfect for campers of all skill levels.
Winter Camp Sessions

INTRO TO ROBOTICS
Instructor: Carrie Beach and the Mixxer Robotics Team
Date: December 29, 30, & 31 - 9AM to 2PM
Registration Fee: $350 (includes Robot Kit)
Age Range: Makers in 6th through 12th grade
Participants will design, code, and assemble their own robot while gaining foundational skills that prepare them for everything from technical robotics to future Battle Bots–style builds.

INTRO TO BLADE SMITHING
Instructor: Thaddeus Prevette, Mixxer Resident Artist
Date: December 29, 30, & 31 - 9AM to 3PM
Registration Fee: $300
Age Range: Makers in 6th through 12th grade
Youth will forge, shape, and handle their own everyday-carry knife while learning the fundamentals of safe and effective bladesmithing.

WOODWORKING:
FURNITURE DESIGN
Instructor: Jason Lagesse
Date: December 29, 30, and 31 9AM to 2PM
Registration Fee: $300
Age Range: Makers in 8th through 12th grade
Participants will learn essential woodworking skills, from reading plans to using modern shop tools, as they build their own handcrafted chair.

3D DESIGN & PRINTING
Instructor: Lyssa Troemel
Date: December 29, 30, & 31; 9AM to 3PM
Registration Fee: $200
Age Range: Makers in 6th through 12th grade
Students will explore the world of 3D creation by learning Tinkercad basics, engineering-focused Fusion design, and 3D animation fundamentals in Blender.

We believe every kid should have access to the tools, tech, and knowledge we have here at Mixxer. Thanks to the support of Ray & Lynn Clarke, the Reynolds American Foundation, and the City of Winston-Salem, Mixxer able ensure money is not a barrier to accessing Mixxer Programs.

What are the dates and times for the camps?
All four camps run December 29th, 30th, and 31st from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM each day.
Is early drop-off available?
Yes. Early drop-off begins at 8:30 AM at no additional cost.
Can my child stay later in the day?
Makers 14+ years old may stay later to continue working on projects until 5:00–5:30 PM.
Parents/guardians must email Jason at jason@wsmixxer.org ahead of time to arrange this.

What should participants bring?

A water bottle

A positive, ready-to-make attitude!
Lunch is provided daily.
What should students wear?
For safety, all participants must wear:

Closed-toed shoes

Pants made of natural fibers (jeans, khakis, etc.)

Clothing they don’t mind getting dusty or messy
Are materials provided?
Yes. All materials and tools are included.
Students will take home whatever they create:

A robot (Robotics Camp)

A finished blade (Bladesmithing)

A completed chair (Furniture Design)
-
3D models and printed designs (3D Modeling & Design)
Do students get to keep their projects?
Absolutely — every participant goes home with their finished work.
Is lunch provided?
Yes, lunch is provided all three days.
Do parents need to come inside for drop-off?
On Monday, December 29th, a parent or responsible adult must come inside to:

Drop-off for days two and three can be curbside unless otherwise communicated.
What ages can participate?
Most camps are designed for youth in middle and high school, though some programs may welcome slightly younger or older students depending on skill and safety requirements.
What is the early bird pricing?

Are payment plans available?
Yes. Families can:

Are scholarships available?
Yes! Scholarships are offered through the Clark Family Scholarship Foundation.

My child has never used tools or software before — is that okay?
Definitely. These camps are designed for beginners, with all instruction scaffolded for safety and success. No prior experience is required.
What safety measures are in place?

What is the student-to-instructor ratio?
Mixxer camps keep numbers small so students get plenty of guidance and hands-on support.
What is the refund policy?
A nonrefundable fee of $1.99 will be charged at the time of registration. You have the option to pay for the programs you registered for in installments by paying the minimum down payment associated with those programs. Installment payments are scheduled automatically, created based on the time between registration and the start date of the program, and are due according to that schedule. If you choose to cancel registration for programs, any payments made towards the total balance due will be refunded, minus 7% of the total paid for the registration(s) being cancelled plus the nonrefundable $1.99 fee. Refunds will be processed within 14 business days of the cancellation request. If the program is cancelled by Mixxer Community Makerspace, all payments made will be refunded in full. Refund requests must be made in writing and can be sent via email to info@wsmixxer.org. No refund will be provided if a participant is expelled from the program due to violation of the program's code of conduct. All refund requests must be received seven (7) days before the start date of the program. Refund requests made after seven (7) days before the start date of the program will be refunded at $50% of total payments made.
Do phones/tablets need to be brought?
No. We provide all computers, materials, and tools. Students may bring their devices, but they are responsible for them.
Is transportation provided?
