Meet the Instructor

Julie Risher

As a hobby woodworker for 40 years, Julie has built over 50 pieces of furniture and turned about 200 pieces on the lathe! Her turning work appears on Facebook at Turner's Dance Lathework.

Julie prefers to repurpose wood that would otherwise be ground up, hauled to the landfill, or burned. In fact, she has been known to track down the source of a chain saw sound in her neighborhood, "stalk" tree removal trucks, and make slightly illegal quick turns when she spots promising curb wood. (Curb wood is a widely varied urban species; it's wood placed at the curb.)

Her thought is: "why not make something beautiful instead of putting wood in the landfill?"
