Upcycle Your Clothing Series

Minimum Age: 16 years old

Learn the basics of upcycling an existing garment into something unique and different! We will explore how to use components of garments, like pockets, plackets, and buttons to transform your clothing. You will make simple paper patterns and learn how to use a garment's yardage for your new creation.

Session 1 will focus on instruction and discovery of the upcycling process. This session you will turn a shirt into a simple drawstring bag. You'll learn how to work with the provided supplies to manipulate the shirt to create your bag. All supplies are included for this session. Session 2 will allow you to let your creativity flow as you work on a project of your own design. You will be able to take a garment of your choice and turn in into something new a unique! You'll have the option to use supplies at Mixxer or bring your own garment to upcycle into your own design.

You can use Mixxer's sewing machines, or bring your own machine if you have one you prefer to work on!

Session 1: Feburary 28, 5:30-8:00 PM

Session 2: March 1, 1:00-4:00 PM

MIXXER's own June Jones has been sharing her expertise and knowledge to members and offering a friendly hand in all their sewing projects. June has been sewing for as long as she can remember. Having had an established career as an electronics technician and running a business focused on sewing machine repairs, June can skillfully assess your machine and give you guidance in all its stitches and settings. Come by and learn stuff about your sewing machine!

This class is for ages 16 years old and older. All makers ages 16 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.  Please email workshops@wsmixxer.org for any questions.

Workshops must meet a minimum number of registrations.  Mixxer may cancel workshop 48 hours prior to start time, if minimum is not met. Should you need to cancel your registration, 48 hours notice is required to request a cancellation, refund or credit to future workshop date.
