About the event
Intro to Welding at Mixxer Community Makerspace offers teens a hands-on experience in the basics of metalworking. Participants will learn essential safety practices, how to operate welding equipment, and complete their first welded project. Students will gain confidence working with metals and explore their creativity through practical skills. No prior experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to learn!
IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to wear natural materials (no spandex, nylon, etc.) and long pants that cover your boots or close toed shoes. We'll provide the rest of the safety gear you'll need.
Meet the Instructor: Thaddeus Prevette is a sculpture artist who began working with three dimensional objects back in 2016. He graduated from Western Carolina University in 2020 with a BFA in studio art and graduated from East Carolina University with an MFA in sculpture in May of 2023. He participates in public art exhibitions and was commissioned for the design of the ECU 911 Memorial sculpture back in 2021. He works with recycled and repurposed material to create narrative artwork that is influenced by historic and modern mythologies. This meet up is for makers age 14 - 18.
