Making Metal Series: Custom Metal Sign

Create your own customized sign with any number or words you'd like! In this class, you'll be given a kit of various metal pieces which you can choose how to arrange to your own unique sign. By the end of this class, you will learn the basics of how to use a CNC plasma cutter and MIG welder. We'll take you through the process of using simple software to create your file without expensive CAD software. By the end of the class, you will leave with your new sign (under 24x12 inches) that can be anything from a house number sign to your family name!

This class is part of our Making Metal: Basics of Metal Fabrication Class Series! This class series focuses on all the basic skills of metal fabrication from designing your projects to using a CNC plasma cutter to welding. You can take just a few of the classes to gain some skills or take the whole series to learn all the basics! This class is moderate in its difficulty and will cover the skills of designing for CNC Plasma Cutter, MIG Welding, and usage of the CNC Plasma Cutter. This class is perfect for those just getting started or with minimal experience.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to wear natural materials (no spandex, nylon, etc.) and long pants that cover your boots or close toed shoes. We'll provide the rest of the safety gear you'll need.

Alan Shelton had a dream that someday everyone living near Winston-Salem would have a place to make stuff & learn stuff, and with the help of the community, led the efforts to open Mixxer Community Makerspace, to make that dream come true. Now he is working to support the inner artist and craftsperson in everyone in our community. Alan teaches metal casting, metal fabrication and welding, basic woodworking, and supports makers learning new skills at Mixxer.
