Intro to Welding: Smoothing Surfaces

Minimum Age: 18 Years Old

Learn how to weld your own metal catch all box and how to create a nice smooth surface on your box. In this class, you'll learn some basic welding to join the sides of your box before using basic metalworking techniques to disguise your welds, creating a smooth surface on your box. By the end of the class you'll have a catch all that is perfect to put all your pens, pencils, or anything you want into!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to wear natural materials (no spandex, nylon, etc.) and long pants that cover your boots or close toed shoes. We'll provide the rest of the safety gear you'll need.

Lyssa Troemel is in her third year of studies in Animatronics at UNCSA. Prior to enrolling at UNCSA, she was a props master and puppet builder in the Fort Wayne, IN area. Her work gained the attention of the local band Silbo Gomero and she collaborated with them to produce the award-winning shadow puppet music video “Whale Fall”. She also served on the Board of Directors of Puppeteers of America for two years. She loves to find ways to fuse the arts with technology and continues to do so in her studies. This class is for makers 18 years old and older. All makers ages 16 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.  Please email workshops@wsmixxer.org for any questions.

Workshops must meet a minimum number of registrations. Mixxer may cancel workshop 48 hours prior to start time, if minimum is not met. Should you need to cancel your registration, 48 hours notice is required to request a cancellation, refund or credit to future workshop date.
