Intro to Upcycling Clothing: Sweatshirt Transformation

Minimum Age: 16 years old

Learn the basics of upcycling clothing by turning a simple sweatshirt into a spring jacket! This project is an easy way to try your hand at upcycling by learning how to cut, add a variety of notions, and sew different sections. Bring a sweatshirt of your choice (a larger size than your typical size are recommended) and design your unique cardigan jacket. Trims, fabric, and buttons will be provided or bring your own if you have some!

If you have your own sewing machine, bring it along or use one of Mixxer's. If you do bring your machine, make sure you bring any attachments and your manual if possible. If you prefer to hand sew, we'll also have the materials you'll need!

MIXXER's own June Jones has been sharing her expertise and knowledge to members and offering a friendly hand in all their sewing projects. June has been sewing for as long as she can remember. Having had an established career as an electronics technician and running a business focused on sewing machine repairs, June can skillfully assess your machine and give you guidance in all its stitches and settings. Come by and learn stuff about your sewing machine!

All makers ages 16 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.  Please email workshops@wsmixxer.org for any questions.

Workshops must meet a minimum number of registrations.  Mixxer may cancel workshop 48 hours prior to start time, if minimum is not met. Should you need to cancel your registration, 48 hours notice is required to request a cancellation, refund or credit to future workshop date.
