The good news is that we're already halfway to getting upgrade #1!
As you may have seen from our last newsletter, unfortunately, the Dewalt Planer has bit the dust. After many years of serving countless members, campers, and class takers, it is no longer cost-effective to continue to repair rather than replace it. Currently, Mixxer has enough funds to be able to replace the Dewalt planer with the exact same model, but this is an opportunity to not only replace but also to upgrade this tool. After a survey of several members who are experts in the woodshop, multiple upgrades have been identified, but it's up to you and your support to decide the next planer in the woodshop.
From now until 4/30, you have the chance to vote with your donations for a potential upgrade!
If we reach $3,570 by the deadline, we will upgrade to a Grizzly 15" with a spiral cutterhead. This model will add both an extra 2" of width and height to the work area. With a spiral cutterhead and a more powerful motor, this upgrade would give everyone smoother finishes, even easier than before!
If we reach $4,205 by the deadline, we will upgrade to a Grizzly 20" with a spiral cutterhead. With all the same great upgraded features we'd get from the 15", but with another 5" of width for even bigger projects!
If Mixxer is unable to meet either of these goals by 4/30, then the same DeWalt planer will be purchased to keep the woodshop running smoothly. Any donations made towards this campaign will be restricted, and we will continue to accept donations until the goal of the 20" planer is reached!
If you do donate $500 or more, your name will be added to a plaque to be attached to the planer itself, courtesy of Kyle Brueggeman AND Mixxer staff will also give the honor of naming the new planer to whoever donates the most to this campaign!
